The British Broadcasting Corp. said Tuesday it has launched a news service in Korean language, suggesting it is primarily targeting North Korea.

While heated exchanges between Pyongyang and Washington continue, the public broadcaster said it is providing news, sport, business and culture through a website and radio transmissions covering North Korea, where government censorship restricts access to independent news.

The service's journalists will be based in Seoul, London and Washington, according to BBC.

Korean is among a group of new languages BBC is launching in what it calls the biggest expansion of its world service since the 1940s.

The 11 other languages being launched are Afaan Oromo, Amharic, Gujarati, Igbo, Marathi, Pidgin, Punjabi, Serbian, Telugu, Tigrinya and Yoruba.
