Summer 2017 kicked off in style at the beaches south of Tokyo with World Surf League QS the MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN gathering an international field of surfers as well as performers to spread the beach vibes across seven days in July.  Hosted at the birthplace of surfing in Japan, Kanagawa Prefecture's Kugenuma Beach, this year’s open took place against the background of a nation readying itself for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.  With the introduction of surfing and skateboarding as new Olympic sports set to feature in the Japan capital, the nation's focus on the two is stronger than ever before with increasing coverage broadening their appeal to fans from adults down to children.  As a result, the MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN 2017 and its celebration of sports culture was bigger and better than ever.

The FINEPLAY team were in attendance at this year's open on July 16 reporting from the event's performance stage and surrounding booths.  In the spirit of bringing summer to a close in the same way it started we preset our MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN 2017 photo gallery and movie digest.
