The 14th edition of the world's premier one-on-one breakdance battle tournament, Red Bull BC One, is set to be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands it has been announced.

The 2016 Red Bull BC One World Finals, which were held in Nagoya, Japan, saw an explosive performance from Japan's own B-Boy Issei, as he took out a selection of breakdance veterans on his way to the title at the third time of asking.  In doing so, Issei became the event’s first Japanese champion.

Although we are yet to calm down from the excitement of last year’s tournament, it has been announced that 2017’s Red Bull BC One will be held in Amsterdam, Holland.  The event invites 15 of the world’s top B-Boys, who will be joined by a single qualifier (a ‘Cypher’, to use breakdance parlance) drawn from tournaments held across 35 countries, to battle it out for the title of World’s No.1 B-BOY / B-GIRL.

For Japan’s breakdancers, the road to the world stage in Amsterdam starts with domestic qualifiers in Neyagawa, Osaka, followed by the Japan Finals in Kawasaki, Kanagawa.  The Japan Champion will then compete with other Cyphers from around the world in the Last Chance Cypher event to determine who will join the top 15 in the World Finals in November.

About Red Bull BC One

The first ‘BC One’ was held in Switzerland in 2004.  From whatever criteria it is judged, the tournament is widely regarded as the world’s premier showcase for one-on-one breakdance battles.

Although most commonly known as ‘breakdancing’ the actual term for the form of dance on show at Red Bull BC One is ‘breaking’, with competitors adopting the first ‘b’ as a prefix to be referred to as B-BOY or B-GIRL.

Last year's World Finals in Nagoya, Japan saw B-BOY Issei become the tournament’s first Japanese champion.

Qualifiers for the Red Bull BC One are very competitive, and are generally regarded as hosting dance battles that are word-class in level.
